Winning photos from Because Art Matters on display at Spotlight on the Arts Gallery

In its continuing partnership with Because Art Matters, on Saturday, May 9, The Woodlands Mall hosted the awards ceremony for the organization’s 2nd annual high school photography contest. The theme of the 2015 contest was Texas Skies and students in grades nine to 12 were invited to submit photos that captured the Texas sky at its best.

Taking home top honors in the Because Art Matters contest was Kendra Gibson, a student at The Woodlands High School. Other top photographers included Jordyn Miller from Oak Ridge High School in second place; Christian Rodriguez from Willis High School in third place; and Nick Harmon from Oak Ridge High School with honorable mention.

The judging committee, comprised of professional photographers, selected the top three photos. Winning photographers received Shop Etc. Gift Cards from The Woodlands Mall, including $100 for first place; $75 for second place; $50 for third place; and $25 for honorable mention.

All photos are on display at the Spotlight on the Arts Gallery at The Woodlands Mall. The Spotlight Gallery is on the upper level near the Carousel.
